Close friends with Karl King, Henry Fillmore, John Heney and Pete Gustat (both of the Sousa Band), Dr. William Revelli (University of Michigan Band), Merle Evans (Ringling-Bros. Barnum and Bailey Circus Band), and Glenn Cliff Bainum (Director of the Northwestern University Band)

Organized the first Georgia All-State Band and was the conductor in 1968

His bands never received less than a superior rating
