Experience in Higher Education
1983 to 2002 Bucky was Chair of the Music Department and Director of Bands at Georgia Tech and was named Professor Emeritus when he retired. His teaching duties included the Yellow Jacket Marching Band, the Concert Band and Basketball Pep Bands. Under his direction, the Tech marching band performed at the Citrus Bowl, the Aloha Bowl, Carquest Bowl, Gator Bowl, All America Bowl, Chik-Fil-A Bowl, Super Bowl and the Coca-Cola Centennial Parade. Pep Bands, under his leadership performed at numerous ACC and NCAA Basketball Tournaments.
1992-1996 He founded and served as the Director of the 300-member Atlanta Olympic Band. The Olympic Band represented the Atlanta Committee for the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games and Olympic events. The Olympic Band also performed in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and President Clinton's Inaugural Parade.

Bucky and his wife, Janet, founded and have owned the Southern Star Music Festival since 1993. Their company produces educational music festivals for middle and high school bands, orchestra, and choirs in Atlanta each spring.
After retiring from Georgia Tech, he served as the Mayor of Norcross for ten years
